Alyson was my lifeline. She explained what was or was not happening so that I was able to understand.
“Aly will know” – that is what I told myself and family and friends more times than I can count. My husband was admitted to Trauma ICU with a brain bleed. Though serious, it was thought that in time he would progress. The first two days I was alone with my husband for the most part. Alyson Becker was my lifeline. She explained what was or was not happening so that I was able to understand. She also took care of me… talking about our love of animals, etc. Keeping me distracted. She did all of this while taking care of my husband and her other patients. Unfortunately, my husband had a further brain bleed on the third day of hospitalization - overnight. I arrived at the hospital at 4 am. Though the nurse on duty was very nice, I wanted Aly to be there. She arrived at 7:30 am and I was relieved. Throughout that day, as we learned the bleeding was not survivable, our family relied on her to lean on and give us the steps as to what would happen next. Though her name is “Aly” I would also say it is “Angel”. At least to me and my family. Though we made the decision to let him go naturally, it was bearable because of her support.
I know she would accept it with humility and thanks.
