Cassandra is fairly new to the VA organization but has risen to the many daily challenges that are present on our unit and faced them with grace. Her compassion, expertise, and critical thinking skills ensure that our Veterans are safe and well cared for. She can often be found fulfilling the role of charge nurse, anticipating the needs of 30-35 residents, their providers, and her co-workers. Even when she is not the charge nurse, her multitasking skills make her an excellent team player. To Cassandra, the most important people here are the Veterans, and she strives to deliver Veteran-centered care daily. For our residents who are struggling, either physically or mentally, in some way, she quickly identifies personalized interventions, communicates them to all team members, and follows up to assess their effectiveness. She understands the power of a team and is always happy to lend a helping hand to her co-workers, knowing that it ultimately affects the Veterans. We are so lucky to have such an excellent nurse caring for our 1 South Veterans. Cassandra is truly a shining example of what it means to be a VA Nurse and a DAISY Nurse.
