You could sense her sincerity and her genuine concern for everyone's well-being.
The entire intensive care unit team was very supportive when our brother unexpectedly required care.
One nurse in particular, Marni, went above and beyond. She was quick to introduce herself and ask us if we needed anything. I requested water as it was comforting. She quickly brought bottles of water and even ginger ale "in case anyone wanted something sweeter."
Marni was training someone but also very attentive to not only the trainee's needs but also my brother's and our family's needs. You could sense her sincerity and her genuine concern for everyone's well-being.
At one point Marni stopped in and asked if we'd like a Teddy bear with our brother's heartbeat, as well as a handprint. This was such a meaningful gesture and something we will cherish forever.
We were glad to see her assigned as our brother's nurse for his surgery to donate his kidney and liver. It was tough not being able to go back to the operating room to say goodbye to our brother, but Marni volunteered to go back with him. We felt better knowing that she was still by his side and there to be his advocate.
