Shelby would bring a positive attitude, and when we were worried about something, she would really listen and help to put us at ease. She demonstrated a vast amount of experience and confidence through her actions and her communications with us.
When my wife was first admitted to the hospital for preeclampsia six weeks before our son's due date, it was very unexpected, and we were nervous, especially since this was our first child. On the first day, we got great care, and things went great. By the next morning, my wife was very sick from the medication. Shelby came onto shift the second day my wife, M, was in the hospital. After the shift change, she explained everything that was happening very professionally and knowledgeably. Along with routinely checking in on my wife and I, whenever a blood pressure reading came in high or M wasn't feeling good, Shelby would drop anything that was going on to take care of M. She related to M so well and took the time to understand our story and our situation. If Shelby was assigned a different room a different day, she would stop in and check on M to see how she was doing. Not only did she take care of M but she was also friendly with our guests and would visit us and make everyone feel comfortable. Shelby would bring a positive attitude, and when we were worried about something, she would really listen and help to put us at ease. She demonstrated a vast amount of experience and confidence through her actions and her communications with us. Shelby exhibits many qualities of an exceptional nurse such as being attentive, relatable, comforting, positive, honest, and professional. What she did for my wife cannot be repaid. We are so grateful for her. She is an angel.

Shelby's communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to quickly form relationships with patients make her an integral team member and Extraordinary Nurse at Campbell County Health. Shelby's communication skills are one of her strongest assets as a healthcare professional. She explains each medical procedure/event thoroughly and is quick to communicate any concerns with the appropriate medical professional.

Her kind heart shines through when she provides care for her patients and long after her patients have been discharged from the hospital. After I gave birth, my son had to stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for three weeks. Over the course of those three weeks, Shelby would make sure to swing by the NICU and visit with me and my husband. She goes above and beyond her nursing duties to make her patients feel special. For example, it was my birthday on the last night of my son's stay at the hospital. As soon as I went home to pack my hospital bag, Shelby prepared a room for me and my husband to stay in with my son. When I came back to my hospital room, it had been decorated with balloons, a banner, and confetti to celebrate my birthday. It is evident that she cares deeply about the needs of her patients and goes the extra mile to make each experience memorable no matter the circumstances. Shelby Harris will forever hold a special place in my heart and the heart of many others due to her skillful care and compassion. She is a DAISY Nurse.
