My son E was admitted late to PICU from McAllen, Texas. He had been intubated for a severe asthma attack, and the doctors there made the right choice to have us airlifted here. As a stressed-out single mother, this was a very sensitive period. We are actually from San Antonio, but this occurred in McAllen. I am so thankful Karrie set the proper tone for a nurse and this hospital. She is like an angel in human form. The amount of care, effort, and thoughtfulness should definitely be recognized.

Even though my son was intubated, she went above and beyond, and she kept my anxiety low. She was very knowledgeable and explained all the numbers on the monitors and the medicines that he was on. At moments, they would suction him out, and he would make subtle movements/responses. It was very painful to watch, but she explained he wouldn't even remember, and honestly, he did not. She brought him pressure point gels so he doesn't get sores and even brought white [noise] music. She was very attentive, compassionate, and kind, not just to me but even to the others she worked with. Karrie is a wonderful nurse, and I am so thankful she was my first positive experience with the hospital. Her kind heart and diligence are very admirable.

Thank you, Karrie, for coming to work because your heart is in it, and you treat children like they are your own. Thank you for not just coming to make money but for coming and leaving a positive impact on families. May you continue to have the heart, strength, and motivation to continue touching people's lives.
