Cece is a nurse in labor and delivery and provided the best compassionate care to my daughter, her husband and myself on one night in March 2023. My daughter was 27 weeks pregnant when she learned that the baby boy she was carrying was no longer viable. Saying those words even now is so painful. She was sent to Prentice from her OB doctor’s office with the painful job to deliver a stillborn baby, the little boy they so desperately wanted. She was admitted to the labor and delivery unit in a very respectful manner. The admitting nurse was lovely, but it was clear based on the time of day, that she would be leaving us after only an hour after the admission. Around 7 pm came the handoff between the nurses. Cece Crane came into the room and was introduced to us as the nurse that would be with us and help my daughter through this painful experience. Through the night Cece kept us informed of the process, assured that my daughter was as physically comfortable as possible, and supported all of us in the best way possible in an emotionally painful experience. Cece's presence, calming words directed to my daughter, and also checking in with my son-in-law, provided the much-needed support. Cece was always present, both physically in the room and emotionally there as a support. She anticipated my daughter's needs and provided privacy when needed. We could not have asked for a more skilled nurse in this experience. Our little guy, J.W.L., was born after 5:00am. The care and compassion that Cece and the whole team demonstrated to us made this unbearable experience a little easier to go through. Cece then guided the parents with the experience of holding their son, allowing them to have the experience when they were ready. So painful to hold your little one that you will never bring home, but so important to have that connection. Her compassion and kindness is what the DAISY Award is all about. Cecilia is truly an extraordinary nurse.
