I was assigned to a patient who passed quickly after the start of my shift. Our team worked really hard and so well together for this baby but a nurse from United Labor and Delivery, Natashia, who was also starting her shift, really stood out to me and I wanted to make sure she and her manager know how much we appreciated her that night.

She assisted in bringing the baby's mother over as soon as possible and stayed nearby as support for the parents. She was quick to comfort the family after we had removed their baby's support and stayed by the mother's side after the father left to notify family. She was thinking of the mother's physical pain throughout the evening as the mother was immediately transferred to the NICU post C-section, coordinating medications to be brought to the NICU. She was such a natural at comforting this grieving mother. She was flexible and easy-going as we made plans for the evening to allow the family time with the baby in their AP room. I admire how easily she jumped in to console the mother in an environment that was unfamiliar to her. That family had an impossibly hard day, but I think it was so much better because she was there.
