Gene was my mother's nurse for several days while she was there as an inpatient in August. He went above and beyond in her care. He demonstrated sincerity, compassion, empathy, and professionalism in all of his interactions with her and us. He was truly an advocate for his patient, reaching out to doctors to get orders for her to help make her comfortable when other nurses just followed the orders that were in her chart. Other nurses gave her good care but his care and interactions stood out above all others. My mother had wanted to nominate him but unfortunately wasn't able to do so before she became too sick and passed away. Some of the things she told me about him was that he actually listened to her and would do everything he could to make her comfortable. He would do all that he could to let her rest overnight. He also had conversations with her, which she greatly appreciated. She received a diagnosis of cancer while there, and he was very compassionate with her. A great nurse!
