I was shaking, crying, anxious, and terrified. As I walked into the operating room there was Morgan. She went out of her way to put herself in our delivery. She saw how scared I was, hugged me, and held my hand as she guided me to the table. Seeing her was exactly what I needed in that moment. A face I knew and someone who I already trusted.
My OB's office had me go into Riverside's labor and delivery triage for a severely high blood pressure. I was pregnant with identical twin boys, and so scared at what this meant. My husband and I met Morgan and she directed us to our room to get changed and start the process of checking on both me and the babies. She made the situation less scary with her bubbly demeanor and friendliness. After getting the boys on the monitor and checking my blood pressure several times, she called my doctor. Morgan made sure we were always informed about changes and what the plan was and never “beat around the bush.” Morgan let us know our doctor was going to come see us because we were very close to needing to deliver the boys emergently. I was terrified. She stayed with us and informed my husband and I on what was going to happen next as I became tearful. She could see how scared I was and held my hand as she explained we were being admitted to the high-risk OB unit. What did this mean for the health of my babies? Why was this happening? Morgan went out of her way to explain everything to my husband and me, from symptoms of preeclampsia to the steroids my boys would need to help develop their lungs and what would happen over the next several hours. After being admitted to high-risk OB, she wheeled us over to the unit. She helped get us situated, showed the oncoming nurse where to pick up their heartbeats, made sure I was comfortable, and told me she would check on me the next day. All with a smile on her face, making sure I knew everything was going to be okay. I was wheeled down to the operating room to have a C-section. Morgan stood in front of me as I received my spinal anesthetic, explaining what I needed to do. She held my hands, reminding me to breathe, and talked me through the whole process. Although I was scared in a room full of people I didn’t know, knowing Morgan was there made me feel so much better. After I was comfortable sitting at the table, she became the baby nurse for one of my boys. I couldn’t see what was happening, but I could hear and I heard her talking to the babies. She truly cares and loves her job, and you can see that. Fast forward to a few days later, my husband and I were heading down to the NICU to see the boys from our postpartum room. As we came out of our room and began heading down the hallway, there was that familiar smiling face walking toward us. Morgan had, yet again, gone out of her way to check on myself and our new family. She hugged both of us, asked about the boys and checked on how I was doing. She truly cared and it made all the difference. Morgan is the epitome of a DAISY Nurse. She is one of the most compassionate and caring nurses I came into contact with during my admission, and you could tell she loves what she does. Being a labor and delivery nurse doesn’t seem like a job to her, you can see and feel how much she truly loves what she does. Morgan is also extremely knowledgeable and answered every question we had. I truly believe everyone is placed in your life for a reason, and she went above and beyond for my family.
