He ultimately decided to go home with hospice, and given the rapport that Terry developed with the patient and his significant other, they requested that she be present for their meeting with hospice later in the day.
Terry was recently involved in the care of a cancer patient whose condition was worsening. The patient was experiencing episodes of confusion along with increased medical issues. His significant other was having a difficult time and called Terry on the weekend. Terry does not usually work on the weekends, but without hesitation, she went to see the patient in his home, and the patient finally agreed to be evaluated in the ER. The patient was admitted to the hospital and she visited the patient the following day. He really wanted to go home, and Terry discussed his options with him and his significant other. She took the time to listen and understand his goals of care. He ultimately decided to go home with hospice, and given the rapport that Terry developed with the patient and his significant other, they requested that she be present for their meeting with hospice later in the day. She agreed and returned to the hospital in the afternoon on that Sunday for the meeting and provided emotional support. This is only one example of the dedication and compassion that Terry brings to her patients each and every day. I have only known Terry for a short amount of time, but I have observed countless times that she has gone above and beyond for her patients. She is truly a DAISY Nurse.
