They talked and joked, and Allyson continued to educate him about every detail she could.
My son had his tonsils and adenoids removed. Every interaction he had with the KSB staff that day was amazing, but Allyson went above and beyond to make sure he felt safe and calm. My son is 11 years old but is my baby. He has zero tolerance for pain and will go to any length to make sure everyone is aware. He was very anxious about the procedure, which made me nervous. We have brought him to the drive-thru flu clinic, where he would cry and scream. I was very worried about the scene we were about to face in day surgery. When Allyson walked into the room, he began crying pretty hard. She calmly talked to him and asked him what his fears were, and within a few minutes, he settled down. She said she was going to go get something to help with his anxiety. I was thinking Xanax or Ativan, but she came back with a coloring book about surgery. She took the time to talk to him about what the operating room looked like, who would be in there, how it would feel (cold), specific details about how he would fall asleep, and the procedure. Not only did it calm him down, but it calmed my nerves as well. Within minutes, they were friends. He trusted her and what she said. They talked and joked, and she continued to educate him about every detail she could. His focus and determination were incredible. They say people will not remember what you say or do, but they will remember how you made them feel. Allyson made my son and I feel like we were the most important people in the world that day. Thank you!
