Had Emily not trusted herself and ignored the possibility that she wasn't hearing something correctly, our daughter may not be alive today.
From the moment I came in for delivery, Emily was very patient, kind and attentive to both myself and my husband. She coached me through my contractions and encouraged me through my delivery. After our daughter was born, she was checked out by nurses and the on-call pediatrician per normal protocol. Everything was checking out fine, and we were all resting comfortably. Emily came in to do her check on our daughter before she left and noticed something a little odd when she was listening to our daughter's heartbeat. She heard enough of a difference to seek out another nurse to also come listen. Our daughter was having heart irregularities when beating hours after birth. Even though she had been checked out by the pediatrician and other nurses, Emily still second-guessed what she was hearing. It ended up that we had to have our daughter, whom we ended up naming after her, transferred to Peoria because she was in heart failure. Had Emily not trusted herself and ignored the possibility that she wasn't hearing something correctly, our daughter may not be alive today.

She was calm and sympathetic when trying to explain what was going on to the best of her ability. We will be forever grateful to her for trusting herself to question what she heard and for bringing it up to someone else and getting another opinion.
