My nurse, Anjila, stayed focused on her mission. Calming me with a professional and human kindness approach.
Early Monday morning, I was admitted to VHC for severe back pain. Pain, fear, and lack of sleep were the theme of my day. This translated into a disaster of a first patient for my nurse. Family, friends, and strange doctors were trying to get an update from me, but phone, text, and verbal responses weren't too high on my list of things to do. My nurse, Anjila, stayed focused on her mission. Calming me with a professional and human kindness approach. She had no idea that I welcomed this as a light out of my despair. I could list way more examples of her care (I had her three times during my stay), but my hand is shaky from all the meds. The level of my pain when we started was a 9-10. I will be leaving here today at about a 3-4. As I journey on through this surgery and set back in my life, I can surely say that Anjila’s spirit will stay with me.
