When I was moved from Neuro ICU to Neuroscience, I was a bit worried. My Neuro ICU nurse told me “Don't worry, you're getting a great nurse, even better than me.” She was not wrong! Raven impressed me the second I laid eyes on her, and I knew I was in good hands. Raven is the epitome of what I think a nurse should be. She is very competent, professional, empathetic, compassionate, attentive, and takes initiative. She showed her competence when I had a bad day with a headache, nausea, and cramping. My physician attributed it to my IVIG infusion. That night, I was in rough shape by the time we were to repeat the infusion. Raven took the initiative to slow the rate of the infusion and monitor me closely. The next morning, I woke up without a headache, nausea, and cramping. Raven also showed empathy during an embarrassing and uncomfortable moment. She showed compassion and professionalism during this time, which eased the awkwardness of the situation. She is the ultimate professional without being stiff. If I complained about anything, she would listen and then flip it to a positive moment. She always knew the right thing to say to make me feel better. Even though she is a fairly new RN, she is already respected by her peers, and I know why!
