The family and friends of IS wish to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Unit 4D for your kind and compassionate care. Throughout the three weeks in April that IS was on your unit we witnessed the kind of patient care that can only be honestly expressed when one is truly committed to their chosen profession. This compassion came from all the people who were part of IS's care team, especially the housekeepers, CNAs, radiology techs, doctors, and nurses. Within the nursing staff, we would like to acknowledge your Unit Manager, who often took the time to stop by his room at the end of her shift and share a few words of encouragement and the Night Charge Nurse, who made an extra effort to get to know IS and listen to a few of his many life stories.
               
On IS's final day of life, there was Charge Nurse Linda Lee, who showed poised professionalism and impeccable ability in honoring IS's many final requests while continuing with her other duties and responsibilities as unit charge nurse. At the end of her twelve hour shift, Linda decided it would be in the best interest of her patient to extend her shift and allow a seamless continuity of care. During the final hour of IS's life, Linda continued to maintain his dignity while initiating the incremental process of taking him off the life-supporting oxygen as ordered by the doctor. She stayed calm and composed while continuing to monitor his transition, and her presence offered meaningful support to his friends who were present in his room during this final stage.
 
It is the wish of IS's friends and family that Linda be recognized for her compassionate care.
