Nick kept us laughing and deeply cared for my family and my father.
After three days of eating only ice chips in the ICU following a Whipple surgery for pancreatic cancer, my husband was in the lowest possible spirits. His white blood cell count needed to decrease before he could even receive Jello. On the last day, the white blood cell count was coming down, and Nick got permission from the surgical team for that coveted cup of Jello. But the orders didn’t come and didn’t come. Nick spent every spare moment that afternoon clicking and refreshing his computer screen, refreshing, refreshing. AT 7 pm, the orders for Jello finally arrived, and my husband came out of his darkness enough to sing an entire stanza from “God Bless America” before receiving his choice of strawberry or orange. If Nick’s name had enough syllables, my husband would sung “God Bless Nick” for Nick’s great work as a patient advocate. This is just one small example of Nick’s wonderful care.

Nick was by far the most lovely nurse we have ever had. He was kind, empathetic, informative, and efficient. He kept us laughing and deeply cared for my family and my father. Thank you so much to Nick and the Porter ICU. I cannot express the depth of my gratitude.

Nick is an outstanding RN. He is very supportive, caring, and compassionate. My mom enjoyed Nick caring for her. We nominate Nick for The DAISY Award since he deserves to be recognized for his outstanding care.

Nurse Nick provided respectful and compassionate care with a sense of humor. He always knew what to do and what to say. We wanted to take him with us when we moved to a different unit. Thank goodness we had Nick for the time that we did.

He is a team player and does not hesitate to ask for help when needed. He is visible and makes himself available. He promotes trust in patients and families.
