Her tireless, devoted, and skilled compassion for our daughter's well-being made a huge impression on us.
Our 23-month-old daughter was a patient for five days. Our little girl had RSV, Pneumonia, and a double ear infection. She had to be put on a cannula for oxygen, which, of course, was frightening to her as we watched her struggle with it. About the second or third night there, her O2 SATs dropped into the seventies, and in rushed Michelle as well as the rest of the team. We took the cannula off and put a mask on her and Michelle was barking orders left and right. This wasn't the right mask, the right mask is in there, she ended up going to find the right one. She turned her O2 up, but her O2 SATs still weren't coming up, so Respiratory put the cannula back in place. She was fighting it, so she patiently worked with our little girl's temper tantrums. She trimmed the nipples off the cannula so it wouldn't irritate her nose and put her on humidified oxygen so it would be easier for her to accept. Of utmost importance to her was her comfort. She wasn't even the RN assigned to our baby, but she obviously cared deeply for our baby. Michelle's knowledge and skills, as well as her bedside manner and compassion, were evident. For example, even though our daughter wasn't on her rotation, Michelle still came by to check on her several times to see how we were doing. Her tireless, devoted, and skilled compassion for our daughter's well-being made a huge impression on us. She stood out as a nurse who was willing and able to go beyond the normal call of duty. We are very thankful for her.
