I am one of the hospitalist nocturnist providers who has had the pleasure of working with Simon multiple times. This nurse deserves recognition! Simon is a consistently exemplary, efficient, dedicated, professional nurse. He is attentive, quickly executes orders overnight, advocates for patients and their needs, and treats them like family. Simon is supportive of his coworkers, and I've seen him offer his help on multiple occasions, even while busy at times. I've watched him spring to action during rapid responses and initiate CPR. He does not hesitate to call lab, pharmacy, or RT to help the providers with what they need to achieve for the patients' benefit. I remember one occasion, Simon called the lead hospitalist regarding a patient admitted for gross hematuria, and I addressed that call. The patient had continuous bladder irrigation running and started having abdominal pain. While on vocera, I began asking Simon questions to better help me assess the situation and then relayed to Simon that I would be right there to evaluate the patient and suspected he may be having clot burden in the bladder. Upon arriving at the patient’s room, Simon was at the bedside and ready with all the supplies needed to flush the catheter and dislodge any possible clots that may be causing the patient's pain without me even asking. The patient was already prepped with extra bed pads and towels. We spent some time helping that patient and were able to successfully resolve the cause of his pain. There have been multiple occasions similar to this where he anticipates the provider's needs and/or questions. Overall, he is a joy to work with, goes above and beyond for patients, his fellow colleagues, and providers, and makes our job easier.
