All of our nurses on the Surgical Short Stay unit are kind, professional and caring. Stephanie Sanfelice took it one step further recently, staying late and exceeding expectations to help a patient recover from hernia surgery. For her efforts, she’s earned a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The patient’s wife nominated Stephanie for the honor. These excerpts show how Stephanie exemplified excellence:

“Stephanie was my husband’s primary nurse the entire post-operative stay, and she was absolutely wonderful.

“Through it all, Stephanie was there, kind, helpful and understanding. She was scheduled to leave at 8 p.m. but she stayed later, pleasant and helpful, never giving any indication that it was a problem or inconvenience.

“Stephanie stayed attentive to my husband, helpful to me (she set me up in a room to watch TV when my husband was able to doze off so I wouldn’t wake him) and just kind and friendly. I repeatedly apologized for keeping her so late and she was always gracious and made it clear that this was not a problem.

“I truly can’t say enough about how kind and caring Stephanie was… She absolutely went above and beyond to provide exceptional care to my husband. I truly hope she can be recognized for going above and beyond for her patients. She is what nurses should be!”
