not only attentive, compassionate and caring for my mom, she helped me and my wife as family members who spent a lot of time in my mom's room.
My mom was a patient on the 3rd Floor for two weeks. Wendy Lee worked the night shift and was not only attentive, compassionate and caring for my mom, she helped me and my wife as family members who spent a lot of time in my mom's room. Wendy told us, realistically, about what signs we were seeing that made us more realistic about her condition. She shared her own family experience as well as discussed things based on her 25 years as a nurse. When my mom's condition deteriorated and choices for discharge to hospice and long-term care were presented, we relied on Wendy to give us a good picture of which environment would better suit my mom given what Wendy could see in her chart, appearance, and behavior. We opted for hospice care and we're glad that Wendy told us her experience with hospice. We knew nothing about it. Wendy prepared us to make what turned out to be the right decision. Wendy also handled another family member who was from up north. She was respectful but blunt about my mom's condition and what actions he should be ready to agree to. And to my surprise and delight, he commented to staff that he had never seen, or expected, such a level of care in Alabama as he had seen up north at big-name hospitals. After my mom passed, he left for back home without any regrets about the care given to mom at Madison Hospital. I can credit a lot of the success that played out in our family as a result of the knowledge, experience, and encouragement of Wendy Lee. She should be recognized as a great example to other nurses and as the kind of good person who brings honor to our community.
