I would like to nominate Cathy Spagnoli, RN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional dedication and compassion demonstrated on two crucial occasions that happened on the same day.

Firstly, during a medical incident involving a staff member, Cathy exhibited extraordinary presence of mind and kindness. She stayed with the staff member and then went to find a medical team while a nurse tended to the staff member. Our medical team recommended that the staff member go to the Emergency Department. Cathy went above and beyond by personally accompanying the staff member to the ED.

In the same afternoon, a visitor who walked in the Infusion clinic asking for assistance on how to make an initial visit with an oncologist. The visitor appeared flustered and voiced her frustration that she had been trying to call for a few days but couldn't seem to find a way of getting a hold of anyone to get an appointment. 

Cathy happened to be getting water in the Infusion clinic and heard the visitor’s plea and seeing that all the nurses were busy, without hesitation took the initiative to help the visitor. Cathy made some calls and successfully connected the visitor with an appointment with a doctor. This act of kindness and advocacy reflects Cathy's unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of those under her care.

Cathy exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding nurse through her quick thinking, empathy, and proactive approach to patient care. Her actions undoubtedly embody the spirit of the DAISY Award, and I believe she is highly deserving of this recognition.
