Jackie has worked with ECU Health system for a number of years in various roles. However, her last several years have been in the Outpatient Post Transplant Clinic on 3 South. She demonstrates a personal connection with each and every one of her patients. She cares for patients who have gone through a life changing event from ESRD to now having a healthy and functioning kidney. It requires a lot of care and coordination post-transplant to ensure patients have the resources available they and their families need to be successful after transplant. She holds herself to the highest clinical and ethical standard of the nursing profession. There are a number of examples of ECU Health Values exhibited in her daily work. For example, she shows compassion by meeting patients where they are in dealing with this new lifestyle. Many patients are required to have multiple and frequent appointments which take a toll on patients and their families. She has watched a patient's pets in order for the patient to obtain the treatment they needed post-transplant after clinic hours were over. She has donated to supply patients with gas cards when they were in a pinch to get to and from the clinic multiple times for treatment in one week. There are numerous examples of how she selflessly gives to ensure patients are without barriers on a daily basis. She is dedicated to improving workflow and processes and actively works with her peers to improve outcomes for patients. She will spend endless hours advocating for patients, call the question when needed, and will use a multidisciplinary approach to meet patient's needs. She works collaboratively with community dialysis centers for those patients who rely on dialysis post-transplant. She works closely with them, ensuring treatment plans are activated in a timely manner. All while managing their follow up treatment plans. It is truly amazing how much she handles on a day-to-day basis. Without a doubt, Jackie Fairless is an example of a DAISY Nurse. She is a gift to patients and their loved ones. It is evident that she goes above and beyond every day to provide excellent care, all while remaining compassionate to our unique patient's needs.
