She was genuine and took ownership of not only caring for me but caring about me.
In mid-August, I was involved in a motocross accident that caused significant damage to my left lung, chest, & shoulder. I was admitted for 12 days. Ashley was one of my nurses. My wife was with me every night, when Ashley was working, she was very respectful to her, letting her bathe & prep me for bed but was right there if she needed any help. She also gave her a little extra time to stay with me once I was in bed for the night & I had received all my care & medication. Ashley always had a smile & upbeat personality along with a professional demeanor that assured me she was a very skilled nurse. One night, I was experiencing chest pain that was different than the pain from my accident. The pain was in my jaw & left arm. I was very scared. Ashley was in the room within a minute of me pushing the call button. She talked with me as she took my vitals & performed another assessment & may have given me meds & drawn up labs. At some point the chest pain subsided & it seemed to be related to my injuries & not cardiac related. She kept me informed on what she was finding & what the next steps would be. Ashley remained in my room & took time to just talk with me to help put me at ease. I remember her telling me she missed the Bachelor that night as she picked up the shift. She talked about how she & her mom would watch it together every week & that they would do that the following day & filled me in on everything that had happened so far. In all honesty I can't stand that show but that night it didn't matter to me; it was the best conversation we could have had to help take my mind off the new pain & worry I had been experiencing. She was genuine and took ownership of not only caring for me but caring about me. Ashley is a great nurse who cares just as much about her patients as she does about her profession.
