Abi was quick to understand my needs even when I couldn’t talk
I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the parotid gland, went through 6 stages of chemotherapy, and it was finally surgery time. I was honestly scared of the surgery and how I would feel and look afterward. After being transferred from the ICU to a regular room, I was introduced to Abi. She made me feel at ease with her care and always asked if I needed anything else before leaving the room. She made me feel that she actually cared. Part of my surgery also included a neck dissection, getting a tracheostomy, removing the bone from my right leg to rebuild my jaw, and having multiple drains inserted into my body. Abi was quick to understand my needs even when I couldn’t talk. We went on walks in the hallways to keep my legs mobile. However, the main thing that sticks out about Abi is her patient teaching style. Knowing I would eventually be discharged from the hospital, she began showing how to use the feeding tubes. She also taught my wife, who also complimented how nice Abi was. I wish there were more nurses like Abi.
