Keela went to Morrison’s to purchase balloons, flowers, cake, cards, and bubbles to toast our marriage.
Ward 11 was exceptional in the care of my husband. Five days before his death, we were married with the help and support of the Ward 11 staff. Some staff members became friends, sitting and chatting with us on their lunch breaks, providing a listening ear and friendly voice. Keela, particularly, was unbelievable, and I will never forget her support for me and my husband. I now see Keela as a friend of mine. Keela attended the funeral, which is a testament to her nature and dedication.

Keela went to Morrison’s to purchase balloons, flowers, cake, cards, and bubbles to toast our marriage. Keela then set to work trimming his room up, ready for me to arrive. My soon-to-be husband just sat there laughing, enjoying watching the antics unfold. Everyone on shift attended our wedding (there was not a dry eye).

We then found out there was a wait for a hospice bed. Keela informed her nursing team that my husband was not to be moved from Ward 11 if no hospice bed became available. She ensured he would spend the last days of his life with people he trusted. My husband then rapidly deteriorated but wanted to maintain his independence, so Keela arranged a zimmer frame so he was able to potter about the cubicle; Keela also arranged a comfortable wheelchair so he could have some fresh air. Sadly, this was the last time my husband was able to get out of bed and go outside. He was so pleased Keela had been able to facilitate this.

Thank you to all the staff who cared for my husband, particularly Keela. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
