The SCC Minoff Nursing team, led by Breanne Hennessy RN, NM, has overcome many challenges in 2023.

On Christmas Day, 2022, a frozen pipe burst in the suite, causing catastrophic flooding in the clinic and treatment area. For the next seven weeks, our clinics and treatments moved to Avon SCC, 40 minutes away from Minoff. Several of our patients come from as far away as Youngstown and PA. Things were a little chaotic at first. The Nurses, MAs, and support staff pulled together to make the patients feel cared for and safe. When patients arrived at Avon in the first couple of weeks, they were relieved to see familiar faces. One patient stated, “ I was so happy to see you and the other nurses. I didn’t know what was going to happen.” They were truly glad to see us.

The Minoff nurses and staff went out of their way to make the patients feel comfortable and safe in an unfamiliar, faraway place. Our nursing staff went above and beyond. They helped coordinate rides for patients and made appointments so that the patients had their treatment closer to home. The nurses always offered emotional support during this stressful time.

The weekend before returning to Minoff after the restoration, several nurses came in on Saturday to help put the suite back together again. This transition back to Minoff would not have gone as smoothly if we did not have a generous, caring staff to help. Patients verbalized their happiness and appreciation to all the staff. Minoff has had a lot of turnover and growing pains. The nursing staff and its managers constantly suggest ways to make systems run smoother and safer for patients and their families. I am very proud of our nursing staff and the way they handled this situation and many others.
