Lisa placed her arm around my shoulder and comforted me as I continued to express my feelings.
I entered PACU, and within a few seconds, Lisa Sosa showed up to begin my preop. She was very friendly, cheerful, and welcoming. As we began talking, I broke into tears. Everything leading up to my surgical day had made me very anxious. There were problems getting my medications from the pharmacy, fear of not getting enough pain coverage from the medications prescribed for home use, anxiety about having a spinal for the first time, and a complete lack of control over everything surrounding the surgery. I explained that I had a few past surgeries and that this was the only time that I had felt anxious. Lisa placed her arm around my shoulder and comforted me as I continued to express my feelings. She took her time working with me, and I never felt like she was in a rush. I just needed someone to listen to me, and she was that person. For the first time leading up to my surgery, I felt comfortable and heard. Lisa embodies what it is to be a nurse and deserves The DAISY Award for providing excellent patient care.
