Alison spent an entire shift contacting providers and staff at UC Davis, where the implant was placed, to determine if this was MRI compatible.
The TICU Team knows what a wonderful advocate Alison is, and when the night shift team recognized that a patient needed a nurse to ensure that a complex MRI was completed, they hand-picked Alison. The patient is a critically ill patient who has a cochlear implant and needs an MRI to determine the level of brain function to allow the patient's daughter and treatment team to make care decisions for him. We could not determine if the cochlear implant was MRI compatible, and Alison spent an entire shift contacting providers and staff at UC Davis, where the implant was placed, to determine if this was MRI compatible. The next day, it was determined that an ENT needed to place a special wrap to protect the patient during the MRI. Alison spent her entire next shift escalating to the providers, coordinating with ENT, obtaining the kit, and creating a plan for MRI. Alison was finally able to take the patient to MRI, allowing the daughter and team to make care decisions. Alison, you are an amazing patient advocate.

Note: This is Alison's 2nd DAISY Award!
