Megan Troxell was my overnight nurse when I came to 7 North directly from the PACU. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, professional and helpful. She was quick to help me with any request, and always explained what she was going to do, and why before she did it. She found the answer to any question I had in a timely fashion, and she never made me feel like a burden, even though I know she had a full caseload of other patients. She ensured I was comfortable at all times, and always made sure I had water to take my meds, and jello to soothe my post surgery sore throat. I didn't have any family with me overnight, and I was immobile due to my IV and Suction Drain, so she was very helpful in getting me comfortable and situated. Above all, she was pleasant and kind, and made me feel valued as a patient.

I think Megan demonstrated each criteria for the DAISY Award, not just one.
1. Empathy and Caring was demonstrated at every interaction, as stated above.
2. She worked as my advocate to determine what my next steps would be, and provide expectations for me based on what she found in my chart and history notes.
3. She made my healthcare experience exceptional; I only wish she didn't have to leave!
4. She would be a wonderful role model for other nurses and I assume she is. As I didn't leave my room, or get to see her interactions with the other staff on the floor, I can only assume she is a role model based on her demeanor with patients and pleasant attitude. 
5. The way she made me feel valued and worked to ensure my comfort, while constantly checking my pain levels and offering solutions definitely demonstrates her commitment to providing high quality patient care.
