She is an absolute role model for the nursing profession. She demonstrates the true meaning of being a great nurse.
I delivered a baby in February. My delivery was complicated by epidural side effects of hypotension and numbness that went all up to my jaw line. This made me feel very anxious. I was having trouble coughing, gagging and was having trouble breathing. Candace Peterson was the charge nurse that day. She came into my room and immediately jumped into action by speaking with anesthesia, sitting me all the way up, getting oxygen. Candace was an absolute angel and she saved my life that day. She showed empathy and a caring attitude by holding my hands and reassuring me she was not going to leave me and that everything was going to be okay. Candace was a patient advocate by speaking with anesthesia who wanted to just decrease the dose of epidural. Candace advocated for me by telling the anesthesiologist we need to turn off the epidural completely. Being a nurse and having been in a charge nurse role, I know just how busy it is and there is no time to be in a patient's room for as long as she was. She kept reassuring me, she's not leaving me till I start feeling better and she did just that by staying right by my side and holding my hand. She is an absolute role model for the nursing profession. She demonstrates the true meaning of being a great nurse. I can only inspire to be as great and caring a nurse as she is. Not only did Candace help me during the scariest moment of my life, Candace came back into the room during the pushing stage of my delivery. The baby was not in the correct position for pushing. Candace used her expertise and knowledge of labor and delivery and recommended I push in several different positions to try to flip the baby. Candace encouraged me so much. She held my hands and pulled me into a sitting position to be able to push better. I really did not think I was going to be able to push the baby out. I kept saying "I can't do this." Candace stayed with me, encouraged me and pushed me to keep going. Candace is a literal angel walking on earth. She saved my life that day. Words cannot express what she means to me to be able to help me through that day and help bring my beautiful baby into this world. I am forever grateful.
