Your advocacy reaches many practice settings, including inpatient, emergency, ambulatory, procedural, perioperative, and support departments. As our CNO, you ensure that our nursing mission, vision, philosophy, values, care delivery model, and professional practice model are operationalized.
Shelly plays a pivotal role in maintaining standards of quality patient care that is effective and evidence based, this in one word, is advocacy.  Shelly’s advocacy focus, ensures quality patient outcomes and promotes patient safety. During our Magnet site visit director session, the appraiser asked the team to remark on “how your CNO supports you in your role and ensures quality patient care is provided.”  Every director shared a significant story or incident when Shelly provided support to ensure our teams were offering exceptional care to our patients.  “Shelly always makes it happen. She is patient-driven and focused.”  Shelly, you continually recognize us for going the extra mile for the quality patient care and advocacy we provide to our patients. Now, it is our chance to recognize you in your dedication in going the extra mile. As a member of the Collaborative Governance Council Executive Advisory Board, Shelly empowers the chair and co-chair of the CHD Collaborative Governance Council by providing an opportunity for support of shared governance, direction, and assistance.  She uses this time to mentor and guide by helping identify opportunities and address barriers.

Shelly became aware of the problem and personally took the time to connect with the unit leader in my absence to ensure she felt supported and had the necessary resources to manage the situation.

The time she takes to meet with new leaders creates a trusting and supportive culture.  I am very thankful for the time she gives to new employees and current employees.

Shelly keeps the patient at the center of her decisions and advocates for resources needed through the budgeting process such as addition of clinical nurse specialists and charge nurses.  She ensures the tools needed to streamline processes such as scheduling are readily accessible. Shelly has also supported the development of the virtual nursing admission assessment and is an advocate for continued development of virtual resources for nursing staff.

Shelly exudes constant presence throughout the organization.  Her leadership is strong yet subtle and supportive. Designing a vision for nursing practice and organizational excellence demands strength.  She fully embodied our Magnet journey and assisted in steering us toward our two-fold designations.  Her influence is potent as she collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, gently persuading stakeholders toward shared goals. Lastly, Shelly subtlety guides and shapes future leaders, nurturing their potential.
