I truly believe this is her calling because her upbeat, empathetic way is so soothing to someone who is just not feeling well and is so comforting when fear is involved.
I am a nurse who was recently a patient. It's definitely hard to be the person on the other side. I want to start this off by saying all the nurses I had were fabulous. My hero, however, was Shirley. This letter isn't about one specific or special incident it’s just to say Shirley was overall a very special nurse. I was in pain, and I was scared, and she comforted me. She held my hand, gave me hugs when I needed them (and even when I didn’t realize I needed them), allowed me to cry, acknowledged my fears, and was simply amazing overall. I am a Labor + Delivery nurse at another facility. Shirley said she had thought about becoming a Labor + Delivery nurse a couple of years ago. I told her she would be great in any kind of nursing she chose, but I truly believe this is her calling because her upbeat, empathetic way is so soothing to someone who is just not feeling well and is so comforting when fear is involved. Shirley is where she needs to be and is meant to be. As a patient, I appreciated everything about Shirley. Sometimes, it’s not just the big heroic things that need recognition, but many times, it's the little things that make the largest impact that provides all the comfort in the world! Thank you, Shirley, and to all the KP Staff.
