The mother expressed to me multiple times how helpful, kind, and supportive this RN had been and how much they helped her through this very difficult time. She was so touched that the RN came in on their day off to be with them on the final day.
We had a young patient whose family was planning to withdraw care. This RN had been taking care of the patient for multiple days in a row and was not scheduled to work the next day when care would be withdrawn. On their day off, the RN came in to provide continuity of care for the mother. The mother expressed to me multiple times how helpful, kind, and supportive this RN had been and how much they helped her through this very difficult time. She was so touched that the RN came in on their day off to be with them on the final day. The family then decided on that last day to allow organ donation after cardiac death and again told me how supportive and professional this RN was in her decision. She said she couldn't have done it without them. She also told me that the RN noticed she was tired and the chair was uncomfortable and then went out of their way to get her a recliner and blankets and make sure she was comfortable when she wanted to stay overnight to be with her son. To me, that is above and beyond exceptional nursing care. I was so impressed. This RN is a DAISY Nurse their kindness, empathy, and willingness to come in on their own personal time to be with the family for continuity of care during the most difficult moment of their lives, so they could be with someone they knew and trusted. I'm tearing up just writing this. I was so touched by their actions and proud of our medical center for having such an amazing nurse.
