my wife was evaluating him as critically as he was evaluating her. And her evaluation was that he was one of the most highly skilled nurses that she ever met.
The story, the long overdue tribute, is too complex for these few lines. My wife was visiting me as an inpatient at SAVAHCS. Without any warning, she had chest pain and stomach distress
and was taken to ED for evaluation and stabilization. The diagnosis was small bowel obstruction. She had lived with this condition because of a strong premonition that if she went to a hospital she would die. Nathan Hoblitt managed to convince her of what neither I, nor my son, could: that if she delayed further, the inevitable would kill her. Nathan’s knowledge and expertise did that—and his personality.
Having been a nurse, and having worked with the best of the best, my wife was evaluating him as critically as he was evaluating her. And her evaluation was that he was one of the most highly skilled nurses that she ever met, with almost a “sixth sense” of what was happening and what needed to be done.
My wife agreed to continue treatment in the community, but unfortunately she did pass away. After 53 years of marriage, I have not handled it very well, and am way behind on thanking those who helped.
Please give Nathan the praise and recognition that this exceptional and extraordinary gentleman deserves.
