As I sobbed, she just held me and said my mom was a great woman. Keeley didn’t know me, my mom, or my family, but she felt our pain and showed such compassion and empathy.
My mother was a patient of the Marshfield Medical Center- Weston. She was in several areas including ED and ICU. She spent 12 days in the ICU, including 2 days on comfort cares when her condition seemed to improve. We eventually decided to move her to the 4th floor to continue interventions as her vitals improved, her respiratory system seemed improved and her kidney function seemed to be rebounding, though still non-verbal. From the time she landed on the 4th floor, Keeley was her nurse and cared for her as if she knew my mom. She answered all of our never-ending questions and requests with care, urgency and respect. She did whatever we asked, no matter how small or large- moving my mom to make her more comfortable, suctioning secretions, providing a more comfortable mattress, etc. When we moved her, it was apparent my mother was once again worsening and was not going to last much longer. Keeley was there giving her meds to keep her comfortable every 30 minutes, getting the doctor for us and attending to our needs as well as my mom’s. At one moment, I needed to get out of the room as I was so overwhelmed with grief. Seeing this, Keeley asked if there was anything I needed or if there was anything she could do. I replied no, but she came over and just gave me the biggest hug. As I sobbed, she just held me and said my mom was a great woman. Keeley didn’t know me, my mom, or my family, but she felt our pain and showed such compassion and empathy. She is the epitome of great nursing, and I am forever grateful for her and the care she gave my mom and me during my mom’s last days. Thank God for her!! God Bless her!! Marshfield Medical Center- Weston is lucky to have her as a nurse, and so were we!
