How can I even begin to say how amazing Allison was to my brother, myself, and family. My brother was placed on comfort care and we were moved to the 4100 hall. From the moment Allison became his nurse we knew we were going to be OK and taken care of. As his POA, Allison helped and guided me on how to advocate for my brother and his care. As an employee at CarolinaEast, I think sometimes, when we have a family member admitted, it is assumed that we know how care is provided and how things are supposed to be done. That was not true for me on the Palliative Care Unit. Allison never treated me as an employee, she treated me like a sister who was having to make life changing decisions for a brother. Allison knew how hard it was for me and she comforted and calmed me and knew I was making decisions that a sister should never have to make for a brother. She explained everything to me and my family as many times as we needed her to. Her compassion was so evident in every interaction she had with my brother and our family. She made sure my elderly mother was comfortable and taken care of while she visited. She ordered her food and answered all the questions and concerns my mom had. We knew the outcome for my brother was not going to be what we hoped for and Allison always made sure we knew we were doing what was right for my brother. I could go on and on about all the things Allison did for us. We were truly blessed to have her as my brother’s nurse. She never treated my brother like this was the end of his life. She cared for him with compassion and understanding and helped his transition be so peaceful and calm. To say Allison truly made a difference would be an understatement, my brother passed away cared for and with dignity because of the great care he had by Allison and all the staff that took care of him. My family and I will always be thankful that we had the best nurse that we could have at the time when we needed her.
