Carlos came on shift and quickly helped make me feel as much support and relief as he could in that moment.
My husband is 34 years old and suffers from extremely bad asthma. He survived the worst exacerbation I have ever seen him go through. He came into the ER via ambulance as a respiratory distress patient. After a few hours, he stopped tolerating the Bipap and got intubated during day shift in the IC. I am a nurse so when nightshift came and I realized he wasn’t getting any better, I was a mess. I understood how severe he was. Carlos came on shift and quickly helped make me feel as much support and relief as he could in that moment. When we weren’t sure if my husband would survive the night, Carlos sat with me and answered my many questions. He cared so deeply for my husband for 4 nights in a row. Every hour he was in the room making sure not only that my husband received everything and anything to make him more comfortable while intubated (and the night after extubation), but also I was informed and in agreeance with every medical decision. My husband is alive not only because of Carlos but also because of the entire ICU and respiratory department. While we still have a long way to go, I know that no other hospital would’ve given me a sense of family while I sat there trying to process that my husband may not have survived. I want everyone to know just how amazing Carlos is with his patients and how lucky my husband is to have had such a dedicated nurse during the course of his care, and I am extremely grateful. Thank you.

It is an honor to have Carlos as part of the HMC Nursing Team.
