She went way beyond to ensure both my comfort and, most importantly, my care.
Tiffany took care of me during a very difficult time during my convalescence for a recent surgery. I had a slight chance of a complication, and unfortunately, that happened. Tiffany was my night nurse for three days. She made me feel safe and comfortable and explained why she also had to be strict (only allowed ice chips during my NPO days with the NG tube). She would not allow me to manipulate her for extra ice even though I had a bag of Jolly Ranchers. I have improved so much that I hope to go home tomorrow.
Here's why I think Tiffany deserves special recognition...she was at the end of her work week streak having picked up an extra day...and she was clearly tired. I had to have several sticks due to my poor veins during the day. Tiffany was my champion to keep the limited access I had in my hand alive long enough for the VAT to come the following day. We added ice, heat, but lost the access. She tried a few times to no avail - and I was just going to wait until morning.
She grabbed the manager who, between all of us, found access and got an IV started that lasted. VAT got another site, and we got through a night that could have delayed my care. Tiffany continually expressed teamwork, and her ability to say, "I need help," was, in my opinion, the thing that separates her from many - she went way beyond to ensure both my comfort and, most importantly, my care. We need people like Tiffany, who are leaders and team players. She's the Patrick Mahomes of my care!
I'm retired from healthcare, but as a person who has had nearly 60 surgeries in my 59 years, I know great care and exemplary care. The entire 5C unit is wonderful; however, Tiffany's exemplary care and adherence to the IU mission have me nominating her especially. May God bless her and keep her! Addendum/ I was literally writing this and discovered she came in on a day off to cover for a tech (she's an RN) who was sick. That humility is something we all should model after. She is working with me tonight as I prepare to go home; I'm so glad to have her as part of my care, no matter what role she plays.
