Hanna provided such a warm greeting and kind demeanor from the moment we met.
As an employee of Maine Medical Center for the past 26 years, I hold very high regard for the care that we provide to our patients and families. My professional journey has had a strong focus on our trauma population, and, unfortunately, my role changed this past month when my mom was admitted to the trauma service, and my world was, to say the least, turned upside down.

My mother suffered a fall outside on the ice and sustained significant brain trauma. She was brought to Maine Medical Center, where she underwent emergent brain surgery followed by a complex medical course. After shorter stays in our Emergency Department, CFT6, and SCU 3, my mom was ultimately brought to the R6-IMC, where she transitioned into the care of Hanna LeClair.

Hanna provided such a warm greeting and kind demeanor from the moment we met. She exemplified the values of Maine Medical Center and patient/family centered care throughout the entire three days she cared for my mom. Despite my mom being in an altered neurological state due to her injuries sustained, she spoke to her with kindness and compassion. She was extremely attentive to her care as well as to the care of distraught family members present. She took time to hold her hand, help her communicate, and explain each action she took to take care of her.  Hanna took pictures of the sunset and sunrise and showed them to Mom because she couldn’t see them from her window. She followed up on questions my family had, reaching out the team and following up back with us as promptly as possible. I cannot tell you how much her attentiveness was appreciated.

As much as it hurts to state, my mom ultimately passed away with family and Hanna by her side on R6. My family and I will forever be appreciative of the care Hanna gave to our mom/grandma in her last days on this earth and for the dignity she provided her as she began her next journey.

As a healthcare provider, we tend to be a bit more critical of the care that is provided because we understand the environment and nature of the care being provided. Hanna was truly amazing and it is individuals like her who make Maine Medical Center the amazing hospital it is. Although the outcome of my mom’s recovery did not end in the manner we had hoped, Hanna filled her last days with the kindness and compassion that my mother gave to those in her life, kindness, and compassion that she would have been so grateful for.
