Brian is truly a young man who does it all. He improves access to care through his practice, contributes to the professional development of our next generation of nurse practitioners, and now helps educate nursing students at this critical point in history.
Brian is a Jefferson BSN and MSN alumni who is now a Nurse Faculty Loan Program doctor of nursing practice student.
As a nurse practitioner in Cardiology at Jefferson Torresdale, he provides care for a broad range of patients. His practice is comprised of people all along the continuums of illness, age and social determinants of health.
In addition to increasing access to care, Brian has precepted Jefferson nurse practitioner students for almost a decade. He consistently provides opportunities for clinical learning and dialogue. In the academic arena, he is a clinical adjunct in the MSN program, providing feedback to students in clinical courses and conducting site visits.
The aforementioned criteria alone warrant Brian’s status as a DAISY Nurse. Yet his list of accomplishments continues. Brian was selected as a Nurse Faculty Loan Program Scholarship Recipient in the DNP Program. This program helps to prepare doctoral students for a future role in academics. Along with the rigorous DNP Program, Brian is taking the Academic Nursing Courses. I recently observed him teaching undergraduate students at the Dixon Campus. His topic was not related to Cardiology, yet he displayed a tremendous level of expert knowledge and practical wisdom. His engaging personality and wit set a culture in the classroom that allowed students to ask questions and continue dialogue. He recently met with representatives from the Health Resources Services and Administration (HRSA) during an NFLP site visit. He was flexible as the schedule changed…. while he was seeing patients! Although I don’t know the content of their conversation, the HRSA representatives were equally impressed with his professionalism and grace.

Faculty across the college enjoy Brian’s participation. He represents everything in JCN’s mission, vision and values, and more than what we desire in a student. It has been an honor and a privilege to be part of Brian’s “launch team.” I can hardly wait to see the next stages of his career.
