My little family would like to acknowledge Kenneth Perez for his diligence, unwavering patience and genuine compassion in caring for our loving son, who has been in their unit for more than three months. That’s a long time and what a journey it has been for him and us. Ken was one of the very first nurses who attended to my son. He never shows impatience and has the most gentle and caring attitude in dealing with my son. My son's care can be really demanding and challenging due to his neurological illness but Ken's demeanor towards him has always been calm and gentle. He talks to my son like a friend or younger brother, and my son seemed comfortable around him even on the days he was not his nurse. Whenever my son is having an episode of frustration Ken comes to him and always gives him that comforting tap on his shoulder and calming conversation in the hallways or even in the room.
We remember specifically that afternoon when Ken came rushing to help in my son's room with his backpack bag still on his back. It was reassuring and inspiring. He showed us that he is willing to go above and beyond the usual and normal call of duty.
My son’s stay in the unit has been really challenging, some days were good and some days really tough. Everyone is very caring, and we appreciate all of them, but we want to commend Ken P specifically as he truly deserves it.
