She showed a tremendous amount of empathy, humility, and humanity, and even sang to lighten the mood after learning that my mother was a musician and had been stimulated by any form of singing and or music.
At the onset of the 7 am shift Andria Thompson entered the room after knocking and kindly asked if she could enter. After gracefully entering the room to complete her assessment of my mother's condition who had been step-down to the Intermediate Care Unit (4th Floor) from the Intensive Care Unit after five grueling weeks on a ventilator caused by an erupted gallbladder which led to resuscitation resulting in an anoxic brain injury. Andria was persistent in communicating with my mother as if she was verbal and could respond. She showed a tremendous amount of empathy, humility, and humanity, and even sang to lighten the mood after learning that my mother was a musician and had been stimulated by any form of singing and or music. In addition to repositioning my mother on schedule and passing medications on time, she also took the initiative and jumped into the bathing process while precepting a recent graduate nurse. Andria displayed excellent clinical skills while treating sacral pressure wounds my mother received from being bed-bound during her stay in the Intensive Care Unit. She provided wound care and simultaneously provided the recently graduated nurse with methodical instruction on how to properly care for the aforementioned type of wounds. Not only did she attentively care for and engage with my mother throughout the shift, she was also engaged with family, friends, and visitors that entered room 4114 providing a welcoming and warm environment. As family members and friends say "if they fall ill they would want Andria to care for them." In closing, the one day spent with Andria didn't seem like we were in the hospital at all. It felt like a home environment where family was taking care of family.
