On the day of our son's ostomy surgery, Leilani made him a "Welcome Back" sign in his room. It meant a lot to us because she took the time from her busy morning to make our family feel special.
My son was a patient at AH Children's Hospital last summer in May, 2023 and again in August, 2023. During these stints, my son received excellent care from all the nurses, but one particular nurse really went above and beyond.
My husband and I would like to nominate Leilani R. from the Children's Hospital 7th floor, as a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award.
My son, E, was admitted to the 7th floor to rule out Hirschsprung's Disease. This was a stressful time for our family because our son was only two weeks old. I remember Leilani being present when the doctor gave us the news that it was Hirschsprung's. When everyone left the room, she ensured we were okay as I was in tears about what was happening.
She answered all of our questions and was great at communicating what the plan was each day. We never felt like we were out of the loop with our son's care because she always anticipated our family’s needs. We were in the hospital for twelve days the first time around and my son had Leilani as a nurse the majority of the time. When we returned for our son's final surgery in August, we had Leilani again as nurse. She knew my son’s history, how to care for him, and genuinely cared for his well-being. We can’t say enough good things about Leilani. Leilani is an excellent nurse who is both caring and empathetic. No one is more deserving of this award.
