Ella continually demonstrates her thinking and knowledge application, but she has also demonstrated kindness, compassion and going beyond the basics for her assigned patients and her peers.
Ella is one of the most energetic, positive, enthusiastic, caring, and ethical individuals I have ever had in many years of being an educator. A nursing peer states, Ella has consistently gone out of her way to establish study groups, promote the nursing program, and exudes professionalism and compassion for all of her peers. As one of them I am truly grateful for all of her kindness and help. The way she is always positive and happy really motivates me and others.
Ella exemplifies an excellent student. She is very bright, takes her learning seriously, and works to understand content. She has demonstrated sound critical thinking skills. While on the acute care unit, one of her assigned patients was having difficulty swallowing, she approached primary staff to have orders changed to liquid medication (potassium). Another very ill client was not eating well. Ella discovered the client liked ice cream floats. Using her critical thinking, she created a thickened ice cream float which was the first thing the client ate in 3 days. In addition, she also educated the elderly patient and their wife on how to complete the chin tuck maneuver and stayed in the room to ensure there were no swallowing difficulties. She is a patient advocate. Another example is when a patient had been receiving numerous antibiotics and Ella expressed concern regarding the potential for c diff. So, the staff placed the patient in contact precaution, and a c diff sample was ordered by the MD.
Ella has demonstrated leadership qualities. As a team lead on acute care unit, she was team lead of her peers and handled a 7-patient assignment with ease and efficiency. She was aware of every single patient, kept everyone on track, jumped in as her peers left the unit for procedures etc. She did not miss a beat.

Ella is engaged and enthusiastic in the classroom and in the clinical setting. She loves to learn; she loves to share her understanding. She deserves the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students.
