Helen’s positive smile, calm voice and reassuring words put all her patients at ease.
Helen Siy’s positive smile, calm voice and reassuring words put all her patients at ease. Helen exemplifies the true essence of nursing by consistently delivering excellence in patient care. Helen shows compassion to all her patients as well as her colleagues and she genuinely cares about everyone and loves what she does all with a smile on her face and she never ever complains. I can go on for days regarding the excellent service that she provides to her patients, but two stories that stick out the most to me are: I witnessed Helen follow a patient down the stairs after their test with a pair of socks in her hand that the patient was refusing to put on because he just did not want to wear shoes or socks. He swayed her away several times, refusing to put on the socks, but Helen was not giving up, so she followed the patient all the way from the second floor to the main lobby. The patient went on the elevator and Helen went down the stairs meeting up with the patient in the lobby walking on the cold floor to sit in the chair while waiting for his transportation. Helen kneeled on the floor to raise the patient’s leg to put the socks on his feet, the patient was still fighting not to put the socks on, but again Helen was refusing to give up so the patient finally gave up and just smiled and shook his head in disbelief that this lady wasn’t going to stop until the socks were on his feet. I was also smiling at the fact that there's still nurses out here that truly care. I also witnessed Helen stay 2 and 1/2 hours past her clock-out time to stay with a patient who was waiting for their son to come and pick him up. The office closed and all staff had left, Helen sat in the waiting room with the patient and watched television and talked until the family member arrived which was around 6:45pm. Helen took a chance on doing this, because at this time Helen was having problems with her eyes and did not like driving in the dark to get home, but she put her own issues aside for the patient. Helen will go above and beyond not only for her patients but also for her coworkers. I’ve been working with Helen for several years and I have never heard her raise her voice once or get upset. She always has a positive attitude and keeps a smile on her face. If I were to ever become a patient for any reason, I would want a nurse like Helen by my side.
