As I am sure you are aware, E passed away in October. She went peacefully and I was at her side. The time in hospice was a good time for her. No more dialysis, meds, sticks, and tests. She still wanted to fight through it and get out of the hospital but after a few days was comfortable with the decision. All she had was the ostomy care, wound care was complete. I did the ostomy care and it was successful. She made it three days each time and no leakage each time. After 4 months of daily wound care she made it. The doctors said all they could do for her was run continuous dialysis and keep her on the IV BP meds. Her life would have only been in ICU.
Her time at hospice allowed her to say goodbye to her friends, she made a list of the ones she wanted to see, hold the baby that was named after her brother and rest. She took time to plan her funeral and have a list of items she wanted to will to people. Each night we listened to music to pick out her funeral and visitation songs. And yes, she chose to wear tye-dye clothes in the casket. Her special stuffed dog was also with her in the casket. She was comfortable with what was happening and handled it with such maturity. Probably better than I would have in her situation.
Thank you for all your care and compassion for her. Morgan was her hero, but she enjoyed seeing the entire team when you came, no matter how much pain there was.
I have attached a few pictures of her at hospice. One is saying goodbye to her dog. We had nice weather and she was able to go outside in a wheelchair or a bed. The other is of the baby named after her brother. Her brother did not live to meet the baby and E was able to meet him and hold him. E's demeanor showed her tender caring and peacefulness, which you did not experience. She looked so relaxed and had no stress.
Again, thank you for all your support and really friendship with her. Maybe our paths will cross someday (not for wound care but just passing at the hospital or in the community).
