She gave me confidence that she was more than capable of taking care of my husband during his critical time.
My husband was readmitted to the ICU unit. Jennifer Jupin was his nurse.
My husband had an open heart and was doing well until his cardiac leads were pulled and he experienced cardiac tamponade. He was rushed to surgery after coding and after surgery returned to the ICU.
When I came to ICU I was greeted by Jen who was assigned to my husband. She was very focused on his care. I watched her for over 8 hours as she monitored every aspect of his vitals and care. She was very focused. Monitoring his blood work, ordering arterial sticks, making calls to his physician, all while talking to my husband to reassure him of his progress. She gave me confidence that she was more than capable of taking care of my husband during his critical time. I saw her take charge of others who entered his room and performed their work.
I was so impressed by Jen's ability to manage the stress of this situation all while reassuring me and not causing me to question his care. She never wavered in her mission of caring for her patient. She barely left his room during the hours I was there. If she left, she was only gone for seconds.
I truly believe this young lady exemplifies the Penn Medicine Experience standards. She was Present, Empowered and Accountable for the care of her patient. She was compassionate and communicated everything to my husband and me. She encouraged him to hang in there when he wanted his breathing tube removed and walked him through everything she did to manage his care.
I work at LGH and was so impressed by the manner in which Jen functioned in this intense situation. I am without doubt that Jen treats every patient in her care this way and this wasn't just a one time occurrence.
I feel the DAISY Award is for someone like Jen who gives 110% every day to the patients she cares for. They deserve to be recognized for this exemplary work for their care for the community LGH serves.
