I am convinced that Taylor saved this patient significant pain and morbidity by identifying a subtle clinical change.
I am one of the general surgeons at Methodist Hospital.  I was on call when D was admitted for diverticulitis that week. She was initially treated medically with no plans for surgery.  Soon, D's clinical condition deteriorated, and her abdominal exam worsened.  Her initial clinical changes were subtle and not reflected in her labs, etc. Fortunately, Taylor Asfahl was D's nurse.  She acutely identified this change in clinical status and let me know her concerns.  Because of her clinical acumen, we were able to promptly evaluate her and urgently take her to the operating room.  The patient has done well postoperatively.  I am convinced that Taylor saved this patient significant pain and morbidity by identifying a subtle clinical change.  Without Taylor's insight, this patient may not have been seen until later in the day that could have had serious negative consequences for this patient.  I am so grateful that Taylor was D's nurse that day.

I would like to nominate Taylor for a DAISY Award.  The empathy and care that she provides her patients saves lives. I feel very strongly that she is a DAISY Nurse. I only wish that I was a better writer so I could more accurately describe how important and kind her care was and how fitting this Award is for her.
