Elizabeth spent the night before constructing the cape; it was hand-crafted with a necktie and all. In the Radiology prep area, Elizabeth met the patient and her husband with the cape on, to "pass the torch".
Elizabeth is the Radiology Oncology Nurse Navigator, and her primary role is to assist patients with cancer, typically undergoing Interventional Radiology treatment. She met a patient a few months ago in clinic who was going to undergo radiation treatment directly to the liver, to shrink the disease progression. This typically takes two to three procedures. During Elizabeth's initial encounter, the patient talked about being a superhero and making it through treatment. The next couple of months, Elizabeth spent countless hours discussing, coordinating, and planning the upcoming treatments with her and her husband. The patient's first treatment was scheduled for the Friday before Christmas.

Elizabeth walked in with the most beautiful, bright, glossy, gleaming superhero cape you could ever imagine. One side was a vibrant green, which represents liver cancer. The other side was rainbow colors. Elizabeth spent the night before constructing the cape; it was hand-crafted with a necktie and all. In the Radiology prep area, Elizabeth met the patient and her husband with the cape on, to "pass the torch".  There was not a dry eye. That day, the patient came in for a life-extending treatment and was able to go in feeling like a true superhero. Providing this level of thoughtfulness, caring, and compassion to the adult population is almost unheard of. She is a role model to all, and saying she made this patient’s day is a true understatement.
