They were professional, never got flustered, didn’t lose their cool, never talked negatively or made me feel anything but reassured that they would find a vein.
I was admitted to Mercy Cassville for a routine colonoscopy. I have one every 3 years due to ulcerative colitis. I did not anticipate that his procedure would be any different. But the prep was different this time, and on the day of the procedure, I was vomiting all the water that I was to take in after following the final dose of prep. Needless to say, I arrived very dehydrated. The reason for my nomination of 2 of your nurses. Stephanie Rayburn and Tracy Ohara, is that from the 1st moment of arrival, they worked as a team. If one needed a swab or a different-sized needle, the other one already had it in her hand. They were professional, never got flustered, didn’t lose their cool, never talked negatively or made me feel anything but reassured that they would find a vein. They reinforced that the procedure would be completed that day, and I wouldn’t have to return for a re-try. After a couple of attempts to start my IV, they asked the CRNA to try. After 3 attempts, she sent me back to preop for them to try again. They were so kind, confident, compassionate, caring, and attentive. When I joked with them, they responded with smiles and reassurance. After conferring with each other during the entire process, with the confidence of seasoned professionals and multiple attempts, success! This could have been a terrible experience, but it was not. They could have become nervous and upset, but they were not. I could have been traumatized by seven attempts, but I was not. They are a great asset to your organization. Thank you. What a team! They made such a difference in what is never an easy situation and should be recognized accordingly as a perfectly matched team.
